Outside the Church is the last album by guitarist and composer Ernest Pipó who, together with a sextet made up of extraordinary musicians, has reinterpreted in a contemporary key a repertoire of spirituals that are part of the African-American cultural heritage.

The music on this album evokes new soundscapes that vindicate the episodes of violence suffered by African-Americans throughout history and where Ernest Pipó's careful arrangements stand out, transforming the melodies of these old pieces into chorales, key to understand the development of jazz from the 20th century to the present day.

The seven pieces that are part of Outside the Church have been recorded in the UnderPool studio by Sergi Felipe and edited in a careful edition on vinyl.

Outside the Church és el darrer treball discogràfic del guitarrista i compositor Ernest Pipó que, al costat d’un sextet format per músics extraordinaris, ha reinterpretat en clau contemporània un repertori d’espirituals que formen part del patrimoni cultural afroamericà.

La música d’aquest disc ens evoca a nous paisatges sonors que reivindiquen els episodis de violència patits pels afroamericans al llarg de la història i on destaquen uns arranjaments acurats d’Ernest Pipó que transformen en corals les melodies d’aquestes antigues peces, claus per entendre el desenvolupament del jazz des del segle XX fins a l’actualitat.

Les set peces que formen part de Outside the Church han estat enregistrades a l’estudi UnderPool per Sergi Felipe i editades en una cuidada edició en vinil.
